Duration of project : Ongoing

Skill area : Community Services, Education & Training, Events, Other

Application closing date : 31 Jan, 2025

About the role

The volunteer we are looking for doesn’t necessarily need to have a background in soccer. An understanding of sports coaching would be preferred, but the personality and adaptability of the individual is much more important.

The right person needs to be confident working with children of all ages (predominantly 2-4yrs and 5-10yrs), knowing that some will have additional needs and therefore will require a more individual approach.

We will provide suitable session plans, but that’s not to say that you cannot use your own experience and knowledge too. Whilst we are soccer-orientated, we are very modern in our approach. You won’t see our children doing the bleep test or running laps of the pitch, but instead they’ll be playing adapted versions of bull-rush, tag and musical statues (all with a soccer ball at their feet).

Ideally you will live in and around the Lismore/Ballina region, but please still reach out if you are slightly further afield as we are looking to increase the geographical area, as well as the session numbers. There are no age restrictions for the role, just keep in mind it is a reasonably physical role (chasing two year olds around afield in 35degrees isn’t for everybody…)

You will need to have a full driving licence to travel to the sessions and we will provide all required equipment. Depending on how many sessions you are able to do, the equipment can either be collected from our premises or kept at your home.

We have set a target for somebody to be onboard for early 2025, but there are plenty of opportunities available now for the right individual. Rainbow Roos will also fund the attending of suitable soccer coaching courses, should you wish to develop your skills and knowledge further.

About the organisation

Organisation name : Rainbow Roos AU Inc.

Rainbow Roos AU Inc is a not-for-profit (progressing towards charity status) organisation based in Lismore and covering the wider Northern Rivers region of NSW.

We provide fun, engaging and inclusive soccer skills sessions for children of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and personalities. We're less about finding the next Lionel Messi and more about creating an environment where children can thrive and develop in their own way.

A fair number of our participants have a physical and/or neurological disability and it is our ability to be inclusive of this that sets us apart from the rest. Yes, soccer is at the forefront of everything we do, but our ultimate goal is to break down those barriers of children thinking they aren't good enough, or aren't strong enough, or won't make any friends because they are 'different'.

We run group sessions every day of the week across Goonellabah, Lismore, Ballina and Casino. Having grown from one session to fifteen in less than six months, we are on the look0out for a coach to join us and help continue to progress Rainbow Roos. Aside from the group sessions, we also run private skills sessions for advanced players, private NDIS sessions for those wanting a more one-on-one approach, pre-school activities, school curriculum programs, birthday parties, community events and vacation care clubs

As a not-for-profit, everything we do (and earn) goes straight back into the community. Whether that is in the form of subsidised group sessions, charitable donations of kits, clothing etc to those in need, or providing free vacation care sessions to ease the worry of families having to work.

Not for Profit : Yes

How to apply

To apply for this position, please send us an email with your CV and a bit about yourself.

No need for a formal covering letter, just let us know what experience you have and why you think you would be right for the role. Let us get a feel for your true personality and character – this is a role working with children, not sitting in an office, so let the real you shine through.

Our email is brad@rainbowroos.com.au

We will assess all applications and reach out to the best candidates with an invitation to come along and watch/assist one of our sessions. Don’t worry, this won’t be a formal assessment, but more an opportunity for you to see what we are about and ask/answer any questions.

Thanks and good luck
