About the organisation
School Food Matters is a not-for-profit organisation that works with schools across Tasmania to build on practices that promote and support a whole school approach to eating well. This is not just about providing nutritious food but creating an environment that enables all children to have time to enjoy eating in a relaxed social setting. Our programs and projects reflect this desire to see all Tasmanian children eating well and therefore, thriving in all that they do.
School Food Matters is leading the nation through our School Lunch Program providing a hot lunch to students in 30 schools currently statewide (expanding to 45 in 2025 and 60 in 2026) and through our work in the SmartFood Program with school canteens. Our programs have a positive impact on children and young people’s social, health, and educational outcomes to the benefit of the whole Tasmanian community.
