About the role
A fantastic opportunity to meet new people and have some fun, while giving back to the community by helping to raise funds and awareness for the Children’s Medical Research Institute to support research into children’s genetic diseases.
What is Jeans for Genes Day?
1 in 20 kids are born with a genetic disease or birth defect. That’s 1 kid in every classroom. Jeans for Genes Day will be on Thursday 7 August 2025. This year, we will have hundreds of wonderful volunteers join us to hit the streets and train stations across the Greater Sydney Region to help raise vital funds for research that will improve lives by finding cures for children’s genetic diseases. Why not join them to make a difference in children’s lives?
How can I make a difference?
Join the team as a volunteer or Location Leader selling Jeans for Genes Day merchandise, collecting donations and raising awareness in the community. Each volunteer shift is between 2 – 4 hours long (early morning, morning or afternoon) in a location of your choice.

What we’re looking for:
- Strong communicator and happy interacting with the public
- Comfortable selling merchandise, working an eftpos machine and handling cash
- Enthusiastic and willingness to participate
- Friendly nature and enjoy working in a team
- We welcome group registrations

Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) is an independent Australian research organization based in Westmead, New South Wales. Founded in 1958, CMRI is dedicated to advancing the treatment and prevention of childhood diseases, aiming to ensure every child has the opportunity for a healthy start to life.
CMRI's work is supported by the community, notably through the Jeans for Genes campaign, established in 1994. This iconic fundraising initiative plays a crucial role in funding the institute's research endeavors.
