About the role

Kara House is in an exciting transition and growth phase of our development and as a result we are seeking to enhance the mix of skills within the Board. As a Board member of Kara House, you will be responsible for the governance and strategic direction of the organisation, as well as financial oversight and ensuring we meet our legal obligations. We are looking for a Board member who will be passionate about our mission and strategic goals and prepared to contribute the necessary time and energy.

The Board of Kara House is comprised of 9 volunteer members.

We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6.30pm in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne for 2-3 hours and 2-3 times a year, on a Saturday, for planning days. During this time of Covid-19, we have been using collaboration tools and technology to its fullest to stay connected and maintain our obligations to Kara House.

In addition to the meeting commitments, it is expected that Board Members dedicate approximately 3 – 5 hours per month to prepare for our meetings and complete any actions taken.

About you

We are seeking a volunteer Board member, preferably with previous experience in a not for profit Board.  We would like to expand our board capabilities with a new member who is a marketing, business development or change management professional. The ideal candidate has previously been involved in the expansion of a not for profit organisation and will be able to guide our rebranding and expansion and help us achieve our strategic objectives.

  • You will be passionate about supporting women and children to live free from domestic and family violence
  • Prepared to commit your time and energy
  • Represent the interests of Kara House to the broader community
  • Bring the desired skills to round out our Board capabilities
  • Commit to our board goals and activities
