About the role
Victorian arts organisation Cinespace is a non-profit incorporated association registered with Consumer Affairs Victoria. Cinespace works in screen arts, supporting emerging filmmakers and screen creators from diverse cultural backgrounds, both at a grass-roots community level, and also as emerging and early-career creatives move toward becoming industry professionals.
Cinespace is seeking an experienced and committed qualified chartered accountant or certified practicing accountant with a passion for the creative arts, and ideally with experience in the not-for-profit sector, to join our Committee as Treasurer.
The Treasurer has oversight of the financial management of Cinespace, ensuring that Cinespace is working within regulatory and legal frameworks and an agreed financial plan. This is a voluntary position assuming the Treasurer’s portfolio on Cinespace’s Committee of management. This year we also need to accomplish our transition from a micro organisation that runs project to project, toward a more institutional, systemic & sustainable approach implementing such things as Xero accounting platform, employment of a casual staff member, registration for GST, and registration with the Register of Cultural Organisations (ROCO) for DGR Status.
As Cinespace is a small non-profit organisation currently run by volunteers (we have secured some triennial funding and are looking to engage an Arts Administrator to assist with day-to-day running of the organisation), the Treasurer must be prepared to engage with other Committee members, Arts Administrator and/or project officers on practical financial management issues. While the position could be quite hands on, we also currently have a volunteer book-keeper a few hours a week assisting with invoice checking.
The Treasurer shares responsibility and decision-making with other members of the Committee and it will therefore be an important part of the Treasurer’s role to ensure that other Committee members understand financial information that is being presented and the implications of this information.
We require a Criminal History check of an applicant for this role.
