About the role
We seek a volunteer to primarily act as our Web Administrator and IT support for our WordPress website.
The website role would include such tasks as removing unwanted files, monitoring security breaches, uploading posts and general website content management.
Support for posting to our social media channels and also support with our email service (such as creating email addresses for our group’s operation) would also be extremely helpful.
DGI is a small organisation, and even 2 hours of support per week would assist us a lot with these tasks and would contribute appreciably to our work.
This role would suit someone who perhaps is retired or has some free time to volunteer.
DGI advocates for digital accessibility, including web accessibility, so it is important that our website meets best-practice accessibility standards.
The volunteer web administrator should preferably have experience and understanding of basic web accessibility requirements or be willing to learn.
Our website was designed by AccessibilityOz. We have access to the website codes for the templates and framework, but the volunteer web administrator may need a GitHub account to access the repository. However, any major redesign , accessibility audit or remedial work of the website would not be expected to be part of the role.
About the organisation
Digital technology is shaping the present and future of human society, but accessibility barriers are preventing many people with disability, older people and others from fully interacting and advancing with this transformation.
The Digital Gap Initiative (DGI) is a small all-volunteer advocacy organisation committed to bridging this accessibility gap and working towards a more inclusive digital age.
DGI’s main strategy for achieving this goal is to advocate for legislative and policy reforms and other pathways towards effective systemic social change.
DGI also seeks to actively encourage private sector engagement and innovation in this sphere.
Our website is the main hub for promoting our work.
DGI is incorporated as a Not-for-profit Company Limited by Guarantee and registered as a Charity with the ACNC.
