HeartKids

Every day eight Australian babies are born with heart defects, and every week, four will die as a result of CHD while thousands upon thousands more live with the disease.

HeartKids is a national charity that operates across all Australian states and territories to secure the future, and enhance quality of life for children with heart disease and their families. Income is derived from philanthropy, grants, events and community fundraising.

HeartKids is the only national organisation supporting families by:

• Providing high quality information and support services
• Driving world class research into the causes, treatment and management of CHD
• Advocating for the needs of children and their families
• Raising awareness of the impact of CHD’s on children and their families

HeartKids is at an exciting juncture as it embarks on a journey that will continue to change the face of CHD treatment and support for generations to come.  The five regional and national organisations are currently seeking to transition into one integrated HeartKids not-for-profit company.

The Role and Skills Required

You are an experienced board chair, director or senior executive preferably with health, not for profit and/or commercial experience with the demonstrated ability to lead a national organisation through a period of transition.

You have the passion, time and energy to commit to this new opportunity for HeartKids and the CHD community. Ideally you are able to make a three year commitment.

Working closely with a newly appointed CEO and directors, you will lead the governance function influencing policy and direction supporting the organisation’s mission and needs.

Specifically you will;

• Provide leadership for a newly integrated national organisation through a period of transition from six organisations into one

• Provide direction to the board, enabling them to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of HeartKids

Develop the aims of the organisation, including strategy, objectives and goals in accordance with the constitution, board policies, legal and regulatory guidelines
