The Opportunity
Per Capita is seeking to identify and recruit a new Executive Director.

Vision: Per Capita is an independent, progressive think tank dedicated to building a new vision for Australia, with original ideas backed by hard evidence.

Policy Values: Per Capita generates and promotes transformational ideas. We focus on the way in which the for-profit, government and non-profit sectors interconnect to deliver services and products that affect the way we live and offer bold alternatives that will improve the life of Australia.

Per Capita was launched because Australia needs a better marketplace for ideas. Progressive ideas have been underrepresented in the national debate, creating a lack of healthy alternatives to the conservative orthodoxy. Per Capita aims to change this by creating a new institutional source of ideas to tackle Australia’s most pressing challenges.

Organisation: Since our launch in 2007, we have published research on market design, education and training, employment, tax, neuroscience and longevity which has received widespread attention in the press and amongst policymakers. We regularly host senior politicians, leading policy thinkers and public commentators from Australia and around the world.

Per Capita relies on grants and donations in order to pursue its work independently. It has strong bases in both Sydney and Melbourne. We are a non-profit organisation with charitable and DGR status.

Strategic
• Lead the national policy debate and ideas for a fair Australia.
• Build and manage a high performing team in a think and do tank.
• Grow our stakeholder network and enhance fundraising.

Essential
• Commitment to Per Capita’s vision, mission and values
• Relevant graduate, post graduate and vocational qualifications and/or experience
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Independent leadership and growth of entrepreneurial organisations
• Development of strategic plan and operational business plans
• Experience in building and managing high performance teams and effective organisations
• Strategic stakeholder engagement in research, policy and government
• Successful fundraising and business finance experience
• Highly developed work organisation skills, including setting goals, prioritisation and detailed workplans

Desirable
• Demonstrated track record influencing national policy
• Effective and credible national media and communications skills
• Capacity to commission and produce policy research
• Institutional compliance management
• Capacity to build and maintain donor relationships using a range of approaches with targeted individuals, trusts, foundations and other sources of funds
