CMY354 South Sudanese Youth Worker, Youth Justice Lived Experience Mentoring Project

About CMY

The Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) is a not-for-profit organisation based in Victoria, providing specialist knowledge and support to young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. Our vision is that young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds are connected, empowered and influential Australians.

About the Role

The Youth Justice Mentor Program will aim to support young people from South Sudanese and Pasifika backgrounds under youth justice supervision to foster positive lifestyles and develop pro-social identities. Through the provision of intensive case management support, and guidance from positive role model mentors with lived experience, participants will be supported to identify and reach their goals, and disengage from the criminal justice system.

The South Sudanese Youth Worker will work closely with key stakeholders, including Department of Justice and Community Safety, Deakin University, CMY’s Senior South Sudanese Youth Worker and other internal CMY programs, to oversee the recruitment and support of lived experience mentors. This includes the matching of mentors and mentees, providing ongoing support and supervision, reviewing support plans and monitoring day to day program-based activities. Additionally, the role will be responsible for cultivating connections with community groups to coordinate activities that link young people to culturally appropriate supports, while also fostering stakeholder relationships for further opportunities for both young people and mentors.
