About Role

 

The role sits within the Community engagement Unit and will support the new national program called Train, Engage, Connect and Support (TECS) focused on working collaboratively with DSS, State and Territory governments, ethno-specific and mainstream community organisations, mainstream Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence (FDSV) providers and religious institutions to develop culturally tailored training resources that resonate with diverse communities and faith traditions.

 

The role is responsible for leading work with faith leaders, community leaders and communities  (including in rural and regional areas) and developing and implementing/delivering frameworks and programs to increase community knowledge of DFSV, drivers of DFSV, healthy relationships, as well as DFSV services. The role combines specialist DFSV expertise as well as community engagement expertise, and develops and facilitates community engagement and capacity building to keep women and their children safe with a focus on primary prevention and early intervention.

 

About You

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Community Engagement Officer ready to make a significant impact in this challenging and rewarding role.

 

Responsibilities:

     * Support development and implementation of good practice community engagement frameworks and programs to increase community knowledge of DFSV, drivers of DFSV, healthy relationships and supports.

     * Support development of relevant resources to enhance the responses to DFSV in communities and provide referral pathways to services, including in rural and regional areas.

     * Support establishment and coordination of community(ies) of practice, advisory panels and consultations to develop awareness and understanding of the needs of women, children and families in multicultural communities and practices that need to be considered to effectively work with communities.

     * Collaboratively support advocacy for change for multicultural communities

     * Bring any needs and observations to the attention of the team so that collective responses can be developed but also to ensure that trends are captured formally.

     * Support reporting and monitoring and evaluation activities.

     * Contribute to monthly reporting to enhance the team’s and SSI’s understanding of trends in the communities.

     * Other duties as directed from time to time within your skills range and capacity.

Essential Criteria

     * Social science, social work or related qualification or related experience

     * Background of working within a gender equity framework and/or of DFSV

     * Extensive experience working with multicultural and multifaith communities.

     * Community development background

     * Written and verbal communication skills to convey complex concepts in simple language and work with interpreters

     * Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships

     * Multicultural background or extensive experience working within communities
