About the organisation
People with Disability Australia Incorporated (PWDA) is a national disability rights organisation. Its primary membership is made up of people with disability and organisations primarily constituted by people with disability. PWDA also has a large associate membership of other individuals and organisations committed to the disability rights movement. PWDA was founded in 1981, the International Year of Disabled Persons, to provide people with disability with a voice of our own. PWDA has a cross disability focus – we represent the interests of people with all kinds of disability. PWDA is a non-profit, non-government organisation.
About the role
PWDA is seeking a proactive self-starter to manage PWDA’s Individual Advocacy Service (NSW State-wide and Queanbeyan, Sutherland, Southern Highlands and Southern Tablelands LGA services) so as to ensure that it provides a high standard of service in accordance with the National Disability Service Standards.
The Individual Advocacy Service provides short-term, issue-based individual and group advocacy assistance for people with disability in NSW. It provides information, advice and referral services for more than 1000 people and intensive individual advocacy assistance to more than 300 people annually. It is a state-wide, cross-disability service primarily funded by the Commonwealth Government under the Disability Services Act, 1993 (Cth). The Unit also undertakes individual advocacy projects funded by the NSW State Government through direct grants and brokerage arrangements.
