Established in 1945, the National Trust of Australia (NSW) is Australia’s oldest and largest community based, non-government organisation committed to the conservation and celebration of Australia’s natural, built and cultural heritage.
The Trust owns or operates 38 properties across rural and metropolitan NSW, including house museums, galleries and nature reserves, has nationally significant museum collections comprising 60,000 items, is supported by 22,000 members and over 2,000 volunteers.
The Trust’s strives to be the leading independent guardian of Australia’s built, cultural and natural heritage, and defender of our sense of place and belonging in a changing world. The organisation aims to achieve its mission through its core programs of advocacy, conservation and education.
The National Trust of Australia (NSW) is looking for a CEO who can work closely with the Board to provide inspirational leadership to ensure the organisation achieves its mission. The development and implementation of a new strategic plan directed at the organisation’s relevance in a changing world is critical, as is the focus on the organisation remaining financially robust and sustainable.
You must have a demonstrated commitment to heritage and conservation advocacy, coupled with commercial experience. You will be capable of managing diverse stakeholder relationships across a wide range of audiences, including, Government at all levels, donors, community leaders, local volunteers, passionate heritage advocates and the Australian Council of National Trusts. Critical to success will be supporting a large number of committed volunteers who manage individual properties, fundraise and advocate on behalf of the organisation and building the Trust’s endowment funds. You will be excited by the opportunity to ensure the National Trust of Australia (NSW) remains relevant to its members and the broader community. You will have strong business acumen and the ability to build relationships and influence in a complex environment.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced leader with exemplary leadership, strategic and people management skills gained in the public or the private sector, in an organisation of equivalent size and complexity, who can balance the organisation’s valued past with its optimism for the future. Experience in, or exposure to a non-profit or heritage organisation is highly desirable but not essential.
