Organisation Name : Brisbane North PHN

Brisbane North PHN supports clinicians and communities in Brisbane’s northern suburbs, Moreton Bay Regional Council and parts of Somerset Regional Council. It covers approximately 4,100 km2 of urban, regional and rural areas, with a population of over 900,000.

The key objectives of the Brisbane North PHN are:

  • increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of medical services for patients, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes; and
  • improving coordination of care to ensure patients receive the right care in the right place at the right time

About the role

About the role

As part of national mental health reform, PHNs have received funding to reform the mental health system. This role will lead and oversee regional planning, integration and implementation of a stepped care model to improve outcomes for people with or at risk of mental illness and/or suicide and to increase drug and alcohol treatment options.

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • plan, lead and manage delivery, evaluation and improvement of the Mental Health Reform program achieving desired outcomes and in accordance with strategic vision, timeline, budget, and funding requirements
  • lead the implementation of the mental health lead site work to develop and test:
    • models of coordinated care for adults with severe and persistent mental illness and complex care needs, including approaches to assessment, referral pathways and packages of care
    • systems-based approaches to suicide prevention
  • contribute to the implementation of the regional plan for mental health, suicide prevention and alcohol and other drug treatment, with a focus on leading strategic partnership groups


Skills and Experience

  • relevant qualifications are considered highly desirable
  • skills, knowledge or experience in successfully leading and developing a high-performing team
  • proven experience in the development and implemention of plans aligned to the organisation’s strategic goals
  • experience in the development and maintenance of strategic, effective relationships and collaborative mechanisms with diverse stakeholders
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to motivate, influence and gain commitment
  • experience or knowledge of managing complexity in a changing and often challenging environment
