St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria provides welfare and support services to Victorians in need. Services include: soup vans, homework and breakfast clubs, kids'​ camps and day outs and home visitation to provide food and clothing vouchers and assistance with paying for utility bills and medical bills. Our network of over 110 Vinnies Shops across the state also play a key part in funding our many programs and services and providing material assistance to those we help. By uniting thousands of volunteers to help offer a hand up to people in need, we can break the cycle of homelessness

About the role

We have two brand new opportunities for two passionate advocates to join the Society as Soup Van Coordinators. The Soup Van Coordinator provides support and resourcing for the Soup Van Program across Victoria. The position is responsible for the smooth running of the Soup Van Program, ensuring all Volunteers are inducted safely and efficiently, food and vehicle safety regulations are met, training materials are regularly updated, and Volunteer compliance is monitored and maintained.

The role will be based both in Central Office and out at the various Soup Van locations across Melbourne. 3 days per week will be out on location from 2.00pm – 9.00pm and 2 days will be in Central Office  9.00am – 5.00pm.

What is the Soup Van Operation?

The primary aim of the Soup Van Program is to offer food, assistance, friendship and connection to the wider community, to people who are experiencing, or at risk of homelessness or disadvantage. This program operates within the mission, vision and inspired values of the St Vincent de Paul Society. The Soup Van Program is delivered by volunteers who manage the daily food operation, nightly operations and delivery of food to people seeking assistance.

The Soup Van Program is part of a team known as Special Works. Special Works may be established where a St Vincent de Paul Conference or St Vincent de Paul Council identifies a specific need which cannot be satisfied within the normal scope of the St Vincent de Paul Conference or Council activity. Special Works are established by, and responsible to, the St Vincent de Paul State Council.

Your excellent communication skills will enable you to quickly build strong relationships across the organisation and out on the Soup Vans. This, teamed with your high level of professionalism and customer service will enable you to build trust quickly and positively influence the people around you. You will enjoy the varied nature of this role and will thrive on no two days being the same.

Known for being detail orientated, you will enjoy the role’s focus on quality and will actively seek opportunities to improve processes and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Welfare or equivalent (highly regarded)
  • Commercial Food Safety Certificates (highly regarded)

Knowledge / Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in the use of Microsoft Office products i.e. Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and data management
  • Demonstrated and/or working knowledge of assisting people experiencing disadvantage and marginalisation
  • Experience of working in the Food Industry (highly regarded)
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and sustaining effective working relationships and partnerships in order to achieve effective client outcomes
