The NSW Jewish Board of Deputies (NSW JBD) is recognised by the NSW government, its agencies, NGOs, unions, the media and other ethnic, cultural and religious groups as the representative peak-body of the NSW Jewish community. It leads, speaks and advocates on behalf of the NSW Jewish community with 56 major communal organisations as its constituents. The NSW JBD operates to ensure the Jewish community can live openly and safely as part of an inclusive, democratic society in here in NSW.

About the role

Role Overview

The Head of Community Programs is responsible for setting the community engagement agenda with the broader NSW and Jewish community to fulfil the NSW JBD’s Strategic Plan. The role involves the development, implementation and evaluation of various community projects, educational programs and resources that promote inclusion, social cohesiveness and youth leadership to empower the community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain extensive stakeholder networks within the Jewish and broader NSW community.
  • Identify and maximise opportunities to support social cohesion in NSW in conjunction with the Head of Public Affairs.
  • Manage the organisations antisemitic incident reporting and case management function.
  • Design and develop a range of programs, materials, workshops and events to:
    • Empower the Jewish and broader NSW community to identify and respond to antisemitism;
    • Support the growth of the NSW JBD’s Associate memberships and constituent organisations;
    • Engage with Jewish and other youth to promote resilience and community pride;
    • Provide growth and development opportunities for Jewish and other youth;
    • Engender unity and cohesiveness within the Jewish and NSW community.
  • Ensure the organisation’s programs, projects and materials provide value for money while delivering strategic outcomes on time and on budget.
  • Rationalise existing social and community programs.
  • Provide strategic policy advice and undertake agreed actions in relation to legislative issues and community concerns.
  • Work with the Senior Leadership Team to identify and manage program, governance, reputational and other risks.
  • Manage and develop the skills of the Harm Prevention team.
  • Support the Community Relations and Social Justice Committee to meet their strategic objectives.

Required Qualifications and Experience  

  • 5 years’ experience in relevant roles. 
  • Tertiary qualifications – Bachelor level or higher.
  • Project management background is favourable.
  • Knowledge about challenges and concerns of youth and ethnic and minority groups is favourable.
  • Understanding of the Jewish faith, Israel and the issues facing the Jewish community in NSW. 

Additional Information

The JBD also provides flexible working arrangements (work from home opportunities two days per week) and generous leave arrangements over Jewish religious holidays. This role does involve attendance at out of hours and/or offsite events and meetings from time to time.
