About the role
About the role
8 years ago at age 37, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. It started with a slight tremble, weak fingers and led to left foot dragging and difficulty walking without medication. Gymnastics has changed my life completely and empowered me physically and mentally. I regained range of movement, balance, flexibility, coordination, and I’m stronger than ever. My video Handstand for Parkinson’s was a finalist at the World Parkinson Congress. A second video shows more clearly the amazing change and is my favourite: Before and After.
In Latin America:
Families/individuals health professionals are struggling to l look after people with Parkinson’s disease for lack of access to information, education and tools. Stigma compounds the lack of prioritisation. This all contributes to late diagnosis and poor treatment and rapid and unnecessary disablisation.
The Vision of the Alianza is to be a Spanish-speaking network that facilitates the improvement of care of Parkinson’s patients.
We want to improve diagnosis and treatment, both physical and mental by providing training and tools for exercise and psychological care.
We want to remove the stigma associated with the disease and lighten the burden for caregiving families.
