About the organisation

Organisation Name : GetUp!

Who is GetUp

The GetUp movement is powered by the values and hopes of everyday people. We combine the power of over one million members, movement partners and a central team of expert strategists to make extraordinary impact.

We focus our campaigns on the areas our members care about most in the fields of First Nations Justice, Environmental Justice, Human Rights, Economic Fairness and Democratic Integrity. From making sure hundreds of thousands of people are able to vote in elections, to successfully stopping major projects threatening the climate, or securing billions of dollars in new funding for mental health – we have a decade-long history of taking on powerful interests, and winning.

Our days are filled with analysing the political state of play, developing long-term and rapid-fire strategy, engaging with politicians, media and affected communities, liaising with sector partners, spotting the right moment to intervene, running impactful tactics including everything from protests to undercover investigations, writing hard-hitting copy, and coming up with creative ways to give our members the best chance for impact.

Who is the Human Rights Team

Without a dedicated human rights team for the last year, GetUp is eager for the new director to play the pivotal role in establishing a new team. This includes setting informed strategic goals and scope based on the current economic, political and social environment as well as engaging with community and sector partners. This process will be supported by relevant team members and senior leadership to support the team’s success and alignment to GetUp’s broader strategy.

Previously the team has run and won campaigns in areas relating to the rights of people seeking asylum, women’s rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, migrant rights and more. The Human Rights Team will be responsible for GetUp’s Colour Code platform, which brings together migrant, multicultural and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to organise and campaign around issues of racial justice. It will be at the discretion of the director and GetUp’s senior leadership to build upon these issues and platforms to shape the direction of the new human rights team.
