About the role
Are you looking for a leadership role that allows you to make a real difference in the lives of those around you? Would you like to work for an organisation that is committed to serving the community and upholding the values of the Uniting Church?
If so, then we have the perfect opportunity for you. The Uniting Church in Australia is a large, uniquely Australian Christian denomination with heritage from historical reformed evangelical denominations. In Queensland, the Uniting Church is around 250 congregations and has early childhood, schools, colleges, and large community services (such as UnitingCare Queensland and Wesley Mission Queensland).
The Uniting Church is multicultural, committed to reconciliation with First Peoples, calls for reconciliation across its communities and aims to use its people and property resources wisely and in the furtherance of God’s mission in the world. We are looking for a dynamic and inspiring leader to lead the team as General Secretary. The organisation is deeply invested in the local community, striving to make a positive impact on the lives of those around them. The work is grounded in the values of the Christian faith, committed to promoting social justice, compassion, and inclusivity.
As the General Secretary of the Uniting Church Australia, Queensland, you will be responsible for leading the organisation and driving the mission forward. To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate your active membership of the Uniting Church. Provide overall leadership to the Synod, its agencies, and its congregations, working in partnership with the Moderator and the Synod Standing Committee.
Oversee the development and implementation of strategic plans and policies that advance the mission and values of the Uniting Church in Queensland.
Promote the growth and vitality of the Church’s congregations, ministries, and communities, with a focus on social justice, inclusivity, and reconciliation.
Manage the administration and finances of the Synod and its agencies, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Foster positive relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, ecumenical partners, and community organisations.
Represent the Church at local, national, and international levels, speaking on behalf of the Church’s mission and values.
Requirements:
A committed Christian with a deep understanding and appreciation of the Uniting Church’s theology and ethos.
Active membership of the Uniting Church in Australia.
Be able to give direction and support to the missional direction of the Qld Synod of the Uniting Church.
A strategic thinker with a proven track record of leadership and management in complex organizations, preferably in a church or faith-based setting.
An effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
A visionary leader with the ability to inspire and motivate others towards a common goal.
A person of integrity, who demonstrates sound judgment and decision-making skills.
A commitment to social justice, inclusivity, and reconciliation, and a passion for serving the community.
This is a full-time position based in Brisbane, Australia.
The successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary package commensurate with their skills and experience.
