About the role

Are you passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of others? Do you love the idea of working in a supportive team and contributing to your community? If so, our Social Support Group Activities and Outings volunteer opportunity is perfect for you!

We are an established team operating from public housing community centers in Melbourne’s vibrant North. As a volunteer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of our Social Support Group, where we provide essential support to frail, aged, or NDIS consumers eligible under the Commonwealth Home Support Program funding guidelines.

You’ll be part of a friendly team of Social Support Group Workers, led by our dedicated Program Manager. Our organization, MOSS, works with a diverse range of older individuals who have faced challenges such as housing instability, substance use, mental health, and chronic health issues.

As a Social Support Group Volunteer, you’ll have the chance to engage in a wide array of activities designed to enrich the lives of our participants. From crafts, gardening, and cooking programs to excursions, social interactions, and gentle physical activities, there’s something for everyone. We believe in connecting our consumers to the broader community through various events like footy tipping, celebrating special days like Mother’s/Father’s Day, Melbourne Cup Day, Grand Final Day, Show Day, and personal celebrations like birthdays.

At MOSS, we embrace diversity and tailor our Social Support Group environment and activities to cater to the unique needs and interests of all our consumers. We foster inclusivity, providing opportunities for people with similar backgrounds and experiences to come together and socialise.

One of the key aspects of our program is helping our participants “feel useful.” We place a strong focus on fostering independence across all activities, empowering individuals to engage positively and independently.

So, if you’re ready to make a real difference, join our team as a Social Support Group Activities and Outings Volunteer! Together, we can create a supportive and inclusive community where everyone feels valued and cared for. Your time and effort will be deeply appreciated, and the joy of giving back will be an incredibly rewarding experience. Come be a part of something special!
