Synod Audit and Risk Committee Member (Volunteer)

The Uniting Church in Australia is the third largest Christian denomination in Australia. The Synod of Victoria and Tasmania supports over 600 congregations and presbyteries in the region, providing a diverse range of services and functions, including mission services as well as financial, property and business services.
The Audit and Risk Committee of the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania is seeking a new volunteer. The Audit and Risk Committee is one of two committees that support the governance functions of the Property and Operations Committee.
Working in a professional, friendly environment this volunteer role will make an important contribution to the governance across the life of the Synod by:
- Detailed monitoring and review of the risk management of the Synod based ministries and Synod Operations and Reporting Institutions of the Synod;
- Detailed monitoring of the internal audit process;
- Providing guidance on mitigation strategies and internal audit recommendations for the Synod;
- Providing advice on risks management and internal audit, to the Property and Operations Committee and/or the Standing Committee as required.
Appropriate volunteers require:
- Tertiary qualifications in accounting, commerce, or a related field:
- Risk Management experience:
- Membership of a professional accounting or auditing body (e.g. CPA, Institute of CA, etc.);
- Experience with financial management practices, budgeting, planning and control in a large organisation:
- Knowledge about the UCA and its ethos.
Hours: 4 – 6 hours each month (except January).
