About the organisation

Organisation Name : Wesley Mission Queensland

Wesley Mission Queensland (WMQ) has been helping people across Queensland build stronger and more inclusive communities for over a century, offering community support, hardship and emergency relief, mental health services, aged, disability and palliative care and retirement living across Queensland. As an Institution of the Uniting Church, they work collaboratively with other Uniting Church congregations, community organisation and government bodies to provide accessible and flexible services to older people, those living with a disability or mental illness, and vulnerable children and families.  Through its Reconciliation Action Plan, Wesley Mission Queensland celebrates diversity and stands with First Nations Peoples for an equal and united future.

As one of the State’s most beloved not-for-profit community service providers with a long and proud history you will contribute to the impact delivered by this wonderful organisation of more than 3000 employees and 2400 volunteers working across approximately 90 services to make a difference in people’s lives by building relationships, showing respect and demonstrating compassion.

About the role

  • Multiple board opportunities
  • Skills-based, remunerated board
  • Impactful and mission-led

Board renewal has led to an opportunity for new board members to join the board for an initial term of three years. To complement the existing board members, we are seeking specific skills and experience in:

  • Financial Management
  • Clinical care and clinical governance
  • Contemporary governance and risk management

Importantly, you will be an experienced non-executive director with an alignment with the Uniting Church mission and ethos and the values oof WMQ: integrity, respect, empowerment, hope, justice, compassion and innovation. Professional qualifications relevant to corporate governance responsibilities and practices in the context of the design and delivery of community services are essential.  Coupled with a clear understanding of the strategic and functional role of the board, it is envisaged you will bring a contemporary approach to leadership and governance and have demonstrated knowledge of the applicable legal, ethical and fiduciary responsibilities required.

The culture of the WMQ board is collegiate and deeply committed to the mission and the purpose of the organisation.  The board acknowledges the depth and breadth of insight, perspective and experience that diversity brings to the decision-making of the board and encourages qualified candidates with diverse background including cultural and linguistic, people with a disability, women, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply.

Two appointments are to commence from January 2025, with a third in July next year.
