About the organisation

Organisation Name : Newtown School of Arts

BACKGROUND:

Newtown School of Arts (NSoA) located at 5 Eliza Street, Newtown (not to be confused with the Newtown High School for Performing Arts) is an original social enterprise with a history commencing in 1899. Schools of Arts were pioneering, social, cultural and educational centres that were founded and driven by their community leaders

NSoA is a registered private, non-profit cultural Trust with Charitable status and Deductible Gift Recipient status. The Trust is governed by a corporate Board of Directors which operates as Trustee of the organisation and its assets. The Trust is a small and nimble, fast-paced organisation providing an independent, multi-genre arts hub working to foster artistic enterprise by providing affordable, cultural infrastructure. The heritage building currently houses a Ballroom Theatre, 4 visual arts studios, incubator, and other arts practice spaces.

FUTURE PLANS:  NSoA is undergoing a period of revitalisation to upgrade its building, while keeping its historic heritage fabric, by expanding both the building and its business model. The plan seeks to double the existing floor plan, quadruple cultural output and visitation, and make the heritage building widely accessible to all. The revitalisation will achieve outcomes which will lead to NSoA continuing its vision and mission for many years to come.  These plans require the support of an enthusiastic individual to support the Board in its fund-raising efforts for the upgrade of the building.
