RSPCA Australia is recognised as a leader in online communications within the not-for-profit sector. We are seeking an experienced, creative and highly motivated person to join the communications team, based in the federal office in Canberra.
The Online Communications Officer will develop and implement strategies to promote the policies, campaigns and views of the RSPCA online. They will be able to recognise, analyse and seize opportunities to drive change using our online platform within a busy communications environment.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This position presents an exciting opportunity to work in a prominent role for a leading Australian not for profit. You will be responsible for ensuring RSPCA’s online resources support the organisation’s strategic and operational objectives. You will be a digital communications professional with a passion for online advocacy and campaigns. You will enjoy working in a busy communications environment and be highly skilled in web design, project management and working with data.
MAJOR ACTIVITIES
- Administer Drupal/WordPress content management systems
- Maintain user accounts across a range of online platforms
- Basic server administration, including managing filesystems and MySQL databases via WHM/cPanel
- Create responsive web content in HTML/CSS
- Compose and process email campaigns for bulk distribution
- Create and administer online advertising across Google and Facebook
- Use Adobe Creative Suite applications to create web graphics
- Interpret, report and leverage analytics across web, social, email and online advertising
- Importing/exporting and working with data in Excel
- Managing projects, negotiating budgets and liaising between service providers and internal teams
- Helping to resolve general issues with office IT equipment and software
SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants must address the following essential and desirable selection criteria, demonstrating your experience in:
Essential
- Using online content management systems, such as Drupal or WordPress
- Responsive web design and development using HTML and CSS
- Email marketing using MailChimp or a similar service
- Working with data and using online analytics creatively to drive change
- Online communications, campaigning or advocacy
- Managing projects and prioritising your time in a busy work environment
- Using your communication skills to enhance teamwork
- Commitment to learning and proven ability to quickly acquire new skills
- Enthusiasm for the not-for-profit sector and animal welfare issues
Desirable
- Knowledge of web accessibility guidelines
- Managing online advertising
- Experience working with: webservers, databases, DNS
- Experience using CRM platforms such as Salesforce
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
This is a two year contract position. Employees are expected to work a 38 hour week and are entitled to 20 days recreational and 10 days sick/carers leave per year. Normal business hours are between 8.30am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday with some additional hours required during peak periods. Some flexibility with working hours can be negotiated.
