About the role
Plan International is one of the oldest and largest children’s development organisations in the world, working with communities in more than 50 developing countries. Plan unites, empowers and inspires people around the globe to champion children’s rights.
This is a permanent role working in the International Programs team within the Programs Department. It is an opportunity for an experienced, senior international health or early childhood development specialist to join a dynamic, supportive and experienced team of international development practitioners. The Senior Program Manager will lead in setting the strategic direction of the portfolio, identifying and pursuing funding opportunities, managing a diverse range of program stakeholders and providing ongoing technical support at strategic points during the project cycle.
Key accountabilities:
• Lead the establishment of Plan Australia’s education and early childhood strategy, funding, grant acquisition and program management
• Manage the development and growth of the Education and Early Childhood Development team
• Maintain and strengthen stakeholder management in Australia and overseas
• Work across teams within Plan Australia and with colleagues within Plan International to advise on program quality and growth
• Travel to program countries to support program design, bid development, monitoring and technical support for approximately 20% of your time.
The ideal candidate will have:
Post Graduate qualification in development/education studies or equivalent experience in the sector
Experience at a senior level in development contexts, with relevant international experience
Proven ability in grant proposals and experience with a range of donors, including DFAT or an equivalent institutional donor.
Proven experience in program design, management and appraisal.
Understanding of, and/or experience in, rights based approaches. Previous international experience with child rights issues desirable.
Experience managing staff, volunteers and consultants
The ideal candidate will also have ability to manage and develop diverse range of working relationships with ease to identify future opportunities and program partners.
