The Australian and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine Inc. (ANZSPM) is a not-for-profit specialty medical society that facilitates professional development and support for medical practitioners who provide care for people with a life threatening illness.

The organisation’s vision is to be the driving force of palliative medicine in Australia and New Zealand and will achieve this through promoting excellence in palliative medicine and fostering the professional development of doctors who practise palliative medicine.

About the Opportunity

The Australian and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine (ANZSPM) currently has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Executive Officer to join their team in Canberra.

This position is offered as permanent part-time (minimum 20 hours per week).

Reporting to the Board President, this senior executive position is responsible for overseeing and achieving the organisation’s strategy and planning, overseeing the operations of the business to support and grow the membership, writing high level policy documents and providing high level advice to the Board. Importantly, the position is also responsible for building the reputation and profile of ANZSPM.

Your varied responsibilities will include:

• Managing internal and external stakeholder relations
• Developing and implementing the strategic plan and associated operational plans
• Effectively managing all financial and other resources of the organisation
• Ensuring corporate and regulatory reporting and compliance, including compliance with the organisation’s Constitution
• Effectively managing and responding to official correspondence
• Writing high-level policy documents, newsletter publications and web-based information
• Preparing papers and reports on the status and translation of projects as well as progress reports and analysis

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this role, you’ll possess tertiary qualifications in a related field. The skills and experience you bring to the role will be varied and include financial management, event management, service delivery, administration and Corporate Governance.

Leading a small team, you’ll be an effective manager with an ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills as well as oversee workloads efficiently. You will also be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism, ethics and judgment in all the work you do.

In this exciting and challenging position, you’ll need to be able to coordinate priorities and develop an understanding of current and emerging themes to ensure they are taken into account in all policy and advocacy work.

Delivering programs under tight and competing deadlines, you’ll be a results focused individual with the ability to think strategically and creatively to solve problems. In addition, you’ll need to be able to demonstrate good networking and collaborating skills as you develop relationships with relevant member organisations.

You will need to be available to travel interstate and to New Zealand for short periods as required.

Prior experience working within the health sector and/or community sector will be highly regarded. Similarly, knowledge and understanding of palliative care will be favourably considered.
