ABOUT HAGAR AUSTRALIA
Hagar Australia works, as part of the Hagar International network, to transform the lives of women and children who have experienced deep trauma as a result of human trafficking, slavery and severe abuse.
We pursue this mission tenaciously with the survivors of trafficking, slavery and abuse in Afghanistan, Cambodia and Vietnam.
We believe in hope. It’s what we see in every individual who comes to us. We don’t see the victim. We see the survivor. The possibility. The greatest of human potential.
Established 23 years ago, the global Hagar network now operates in nine countries, with three program offices and six support offices, including Hagar Australia. The vast majority of our collective staff work in our program offices and more than 90% are local staff. Together, we have supported more than 16,000 survivors of trafficking and abuse by providing them with:
- Protection
- Legal support
- Professional counselling and medical care
- The opportunity to catch up on their schooling, learn a vocational skill or go to university
- Placement in a job with one of our many business partners
- The support they need to fully reintegrate into the community and live successful lives.
In addition, Hagar undertakes advocacy to ensure governments, corporations and communities respond to the rights and needs of those who have been trafficked or abused and to prevent individuals from being trafficked or abused in the first place.
Hagar is a Christian organisation, driven by the values of respect, compassion, intergrity and excellence. We support, employ, partner with, and value the diversity of people of all and no faith backgrounds.
In Australia, Hagar is supported by a diverse range of generous donors, ranging from individual monthly donors to large corporations and philanthropic foundations. Small but ambitious in the pursuit of our mission, Hagar Australia’s Board and team are active, informed and determined to grow our organisation so that we can restore more lives and reduce the incidence of trafficking, slavery and abuse in our region.
