Southern Sydney BEN is a non profit organisation servicing the Sutherland Shire, which is part of a national network of organisations working to create partnerships between schools, businesses, community groups and families to address skills needs, assist business achieve sustainability and to support our next generation to realise their full potential. Our vision is to to foster a strategic, whole of community approach to improving education and transition outcomes for all young people.

About the role

The Youth Frontiers Mentoring Program is an initiative of the NSW State Government that engages self nominated young people in Year 8 and 9 in a quality mentoring relationship with a focus on building confidence, self-esteem, and communication skills.

Southern Sydney Business Education Network (SSBEN), is implementing this program across 11 electorates in the Sydney Region.

SSBEN link students with screened and trained adult mentors who help them to build life skills and overcome barriers to participating in their communities.

To recognise the contribution young people make in their local communities, students are encouraged to work with their mentor collaboratively on a community project of mutual interest. The student is the driver of this project, not the mentor, teaching them valuable life skills.

The student can choose a project from themes such as:

*Community Harmony
*Empowering Women
*Sport
*Environment
*Anzac
*Youth Mental Health and there is a General category.

We provide free training and ongoing support.
Youth Frontiers Mentor Training:
When: Tuesday February 21’st, 2017
Time: 6:00pm-9:30pm
Where: Brighton Meeting Room, 36-42 Princess Street (Cnr Moate Ave-take the lift to level 3)
