The Office of the General Synod delivers services to the support the implementation of General Synod objectives.

About the role

The Anglican Church of Australia is seeking an Accountant to work closely with the Finance & Operations Manager in the General Synod Office based in Sydney. This role would be a 1 year fixed-term contract with the potential to convert into a permanent role.

This full-time role is hands on and provides a self-motivated finance professional with the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the finance function.

Working within a small team, the Accountant provides support in the effective and efficient delivery of services in the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, month end processes, cash management, tax, management and statutory reporting, regulation and compliance, and process improvement.

The key success factor for this role is the accuracy and timeliness of financial information with the capability to improve operational effectiveness.

Experience working in the not-for-profit sector is not essential but the ability to apply tax and accounting skills in a service organisation will be important.

Skills and Experience
• 3-5 years relevant accounting experience with tertiary qualifications in Accounting and/or Business. Qualified CA or CPA preferred.
• Highly proficient in MYOB and Microsoft Excel.
• High attention to detail, and ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
• Involvement in all facets of the finance function, from Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, cash management, tax, management and statutory reporting, and process improvement.
• Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Customer focused, with experience in dealing effectively with a broad range of stakeholder priorities and requirements.
• Capacity to understand the governance structures and the Constitution and Canons of the Anglican Church of Australia and their application.
