About the organisation

Organisation Name : Palngun Wurnangat

Independently owned and operated Indigenous women’s organisation in Wadeye. The women of Wadeye play a dynamic role in the town’s economic, social and cultural development. They own a number of enterprises that provide vital services to the community, including Mipatha takeaway and Bakery and T-House Complex. The Women’s Centre houses an art space, where local female artists specialise in printed fabrics available for sale along with weaving and other works. It is also the Facilitating Partner to deliver the Stronger Communities for Children Program.

About the role

Reporting to the Board of Directors in Wadeye, NT, this position is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the organisation and working in partnership with the broader community of people who make Wadeye a safer more prosperous place for the locals and visitors alike.

Your varied responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Strategic and operational planning and implementation
  • Programs, projects and contract delivery
  • Internal and external stakeholder relations
  • Financial management and the management of other resources
  • Corporate and regulatory reporting and compliance, including compliance with the organisations’ SOP’s
  • Advocacy, media and public relations
  • National policy development, research and advocacy work
  • The oversight of 5 direct reports across our retail and commercial operations

 

To be considered for this role, you will possess tertiary qualifications in a related field and will have demonstrated experience in leading a professional team and managing all aspects of a growing organisation, including financial management, grants and fundraising, communication, human resources and legal and asset management. You’ll also be able to demonstrate your experience in developing and implementing effective strategic and operational plans.

As a highly motivated self-starter with excellent organisational skills, you will be able to take the initiative in driving new projects and provide high-quality service delivery and support in a complex environment. Importantly, you will have experience in building and managing strategic partnerships and maintaining high-level collaborative and cooperative relationships in government, non-government and the private sectors.

In this exciting and challenging position, you’ll be able to coordinate priorities and develop an understanding of current and emerging challenges to ensure they are taken into account in planning and for the safety of the community. You will have a fair but very firm approach and will demonstrate a proven commitment to a safer community for all involved and their human rights.

You’ll possess excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and influence people at all levels, including volunteers and locals.

Prior experience working within a challenging remote Aboriginal community setting within the not for profit, community services or health sectors would stand you in good stead for this role.

With a minimum of 3 years of prior experience at a MD / GM level within this space, your innovation, resilience and empathy will help you to take the great work that has already been achieved and lead the organisation into an even brighter future for all our women, children and families alike.
