About the role
PCA is seeking an experienced National Policy Advisor to join their passionate team based in Canberra. This is a full time, ongoing position.
Reporting to the Policy and Program Manager, you’ll be responsible for the development and implementation of policy, advocacy and strategies which support PCA’s vision to make quality care at the end of life accessible for all Australians.
Key responsibilities include:
Development, implementation and effective advocacy of evidence based policy documents and reports.
Assisting with the development, implementation and maintenance of internal and external communication strategies.
Consulting and liaising with relevant stakeholders to inform policy development, including PCA member organisations, advisory committees, government officials, health service providers and consumer organisations.
Effective ongoing engagement with the political process, key government agencies, and other stakeholders in order to represent and maintain the interests of PCA and the palliative care community.
Responding to government inquiries, reviews, submissions and reports as appropriate to promote quality care at the end of life.
Establishing and maintaining working groups and committees with high level expertise in particular policy areas.

Selection Criteria
Ideally, we are seeking a person with the following qualifications, skills and experience:
Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline and/or substantial experience in the management of policy, research and communication.
Strong research skills, including the ability to undertake literature reviews and other research methodologies.
Knowledge and experience in managing programs, projects and contracts with Government and other funding bodies.
Demonstrated understanding of policy development, advocacy processes and ability to drive change agendas.
Strategic thinking and decision-making skills to enable the formulation of strategies that will improve the performance, efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation.
Strong representational and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across all sectors related to end of life policy, research and knowledge translation.
Ability to solve problems and negotiate with others including the ability to network with, consult and respond to the needs of a diverse group of stakeholders.
Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to write submissions, reports and resource material.
Excellent organisational and time management skills, and a demonstrated capacity for initiative and self-motivation and to work well under pressure.
Prior experience working for the health sector will be highly regarded. Similarly, knowledge and understanding of end of life care or a related area are favourable.
