About the role

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner to join our Refugee and Settlement program. Reporting to the Manager, Community Services Western area, this position seeks to provide case work support, community linkage and skill development to a range of clients engaged with the service, including those receiving intensive support through the Complex Case Support service.

Principal responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
• Provide specialized case work and case management support to a range of people (individuals, families and young people) from refugee communities.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments with each individual/family and develop culturally appropriate case management plans and agreed goals, ensuring clients are central to all planning and goal setting.
• Provide an assertive outreach support service, which facilitates community connection and reduces social isolation for clients involved in the service.
• Work collaboratively with eligible clients to identify strengths, mitigate risk factors, increase capacity for resilience and promote positive settlement outcomes.
• Refer and link clients to appropriate mainstream services where multiple and complex needs are identified (e.g.: mental health; family relationship counselling; family violence; grief & loss; physical health; migration assistance; etc.)
• Actively promote the service among providers of Settlement Services, Integrated Humanitarian Settlement Services, schools, community agencies, etc.

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate:
• Tertiary qualification in social welfare, social work, childcare, community development or another relevant area.
• At least 2 years or more of demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge of working in a cross-cultural environment and an adequate understanding of working with Refugees and Humanitarian Entrants and relevant legislation.
• Knowledge and fluency in another language.
• Understanding and knowledge of diverse CALD cultures.
• Excellent written and oral presentation skills, including report writing and computer literacy (including ability to use MS Word, Outlook, Excel and database applications)

This position is a part time 22.5 hours per week ongoing subject to funding role, and is located in our Footscray office.
