About the organisation

Organisation Name : South Australian Council of Social Service (SACOSS)
The South Australian Council of Social Service is the peak non-government representative body for health and community services in South Australia, and has a vision of Justice, Opportunity and Shared Wealth for all South Australians. SACOSS does not accept poverty, inequity or injustice. Our mission is to be a powerful and representative voice that leads and supports our community to take actions that achieve our vision, and to hold to account governments, business, and communities for actions that disadvantage vulnerable South Australians. SACOSS' purpose is to influence public policy in a way that promotes fair and just access to the goods and services required to live a decent life. We undertake policy and advocacy work in areas that specifically affect disadvantaged and low income consumers in South Australia.

About the role

Have you got the passion and policy nous to help us make a difference in the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged South Australians? If so, maybe you are the new Policy Officer we are looking for?

Working with the South Australian Council of Social Service (SACOSS) – SA’s peak body for the not for profit community services and health sectors – you’ll play a pivotal role in policy development and advocacy to ensure all South Australians have affordable and reliable access to essential services, such as energy and water.

This is an extremely exciting time to be working in this complex and rewarding policy area. From blackouts to the River Murray, you’ll be working with your colleagues to ensure the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged South Australians are front and center in debates about the future of energy and water policy in South Australia and across the nation.

You’ll probably bring a background in policy, be keen on advocacy, have excellent written and communication skills and have a real passion for social change. While it is desirable that you have some experience working on energy and water policy issues, it’s not essential.

The position is offered as a 12 month fixed term contract backfilling an existing staff member who will be taking parental leave. While the position is full time, flexible working arrangements may be considered. SACOSS has a policy of paying 5% over the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award and the position will be offered at Level 5 or 6 of the award, depending on experience. This award is also subject to the Equal Remuneration Order and pay rates are gradually increasing until 2020 in line with this order.

Further inquiries should be directed to Vanessa Musolino, SACOSS Senior Policy Officer, via phone 8305 4231 or email vanessa@sacoss.org.au
