Background:
With the introduction of a National Disability Insurance Scheme comes the increasing demand for more workers in the disability and community care sector. projectABLE is the student-focused component of the carecareers’ workforce recruitment initiative. The aim of the program is to inspire students to consider a career in the disability and community care sector.
Position Overview:
projectABLE is seeking applications from people with lived experience of disability to present engaging, interactive workshops that inspire students to consider a career in the disability sector. We’re looking for confident, engaging public speakers who have a good sense of humour, are comfortable talking openly about disability, love team work, collaborate well with others and are happy to share the stage.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
• As part of a small team, deliver engaging, interactive workshops and presentations to medium to large groups of students, mostly within a school setting
• Participate in group training days and reflection days to contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the program.
• Mentor students within workshops, breaking down barriers surrounding disability and encouraging students to consider the many and varied careers in the disability sector.

• Has lived experience of disability and is passionate about disability awareness and advocacy.
• Is a confident, engaging public speaker with a good sense of humour.
• Enjoys working in youth related programs and can connect easily with teenagers.
• Has experience or interest in training and education.
• Is passionate about finding great people to work in the disability and community care sector.
• Is comfortable talking about your lived experience of disability and keen to dispel myths surrounding disability.
• Is knowledgeable about the disability and community care sector and its currently changing environment.
• Loves team work, you collaborate well with others, and you’re happy to share the stage.
• Capacity to travel to various schools to deliver workshops in the following areas of South Australia: Adelaide and surrounds
Note: Under the South Australian legislation, there is a requirement to hold a current Child related employment screening via Department for Communities and Social Inclusion to perform this role.
