We advance legislative and regulatory reform, as well as advocate policy and regulatory support, offer business advice, member services, and professional development for our members across the state. ACA NSW members are predominantly privately owned long day care services, with approximately 65% of members being metropolitan-based. Our members are committed to providing excellence in early childhood education and care for the more than 100,000 families we provide essential services to across 1,600 childcare services.

ACA NSW is a proud member of the Australian Childcare Alliance, which advocates for the future of Australia’s children and works to ensure that families and their children have an opportunity to access quality, affordable early childhood education and care throughout Australia.

About the role

Exciting opportunity to sink your teeth into improving one of Australia’s and the western world’s fastest growing yet arguably most complex and highly regulated industry sectors! Legal Interns report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ACA NSW. The central function of Legal Interns is assist the CEO with research and document development to enable ACA NSW to seek Commonwealth, State and Local legislative and regulatory remedies. These are advanced primarily through government submissions, department and parliamentary briefings, and representation. Attendance at government/senate inquiries, department and parliamentary briefings and general lobbying are also on offer subject to the intern(s)’ availabilities. You will also get to work with and learn from ACA NSW’s lawyers, professional advocates wherever possible.

Qualifications

  • Must be studying law in an Australian tertiary institution.
  • An ability to understand and communicate legislative and regulatory information.
  • Energetic, positive, professional, and self-motivated personality with effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Highly developed oral, written communications and interpersonal as well as diplomacy skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong social media skills, in particular Facebook, Google+, Twitter and LinkedIn.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • A can-do attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Must have a great sense of humour and interest.

Internship Terms

This role is a volunteer part-time role of at least 7 hours and not more than 14 hours per week for a maximum of 6 weeks. A letter of reference will be provided at the conclusion of all week internships. All published works will also be credited to participating interns. Free off-street car parking is available.
