About the organisation

Organisation Name : Anglicare Victoria

At Anglicare Victoria our focus is on transforming the futures of children and young people, families and adults. Our work is based on three guiding pillars, Prevent, Protect, Empower. We offer a comprehensive network of services and seek to ensure the provision of high quality services that will bring about significant improvements in the life experience of the young people, children and families/caregivers with whom we work. Anglicare Victoria has an official Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) that bears the Reconciliation Action Trademark. The RAP requires that staff continue to develop their cultural competence so as to maximise opportunities and improved outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists to join Anglicare Victoria’s Eastern Foster Care Program and become long term foster carer/s to a group of four siblings.

Opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of four children
• Volunteer position based in Eastern suburbs
• Generous tax-free reimbursement of approximately $2,000 per fortnight plus fully-maintained vehicle

Overview of the Program
Anglicare Victoria is the State’s largest provider of foster care. Foster carers provide a safe and supportive home environment for children and young people aged from 0-18, who are unable to live at home with their own families. The Eastern Foster Care Program is based in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

Position Objectives
As long-term foster carers within Anglicare Victoria’s Eastern Foster Care Program you will provide a safe and nurturing home to a group of siblings aged between 7 and 14 years. The children need a long-term foster family who can provide them with a safe and nurturing home on a full-time basis. All the children are bright but require extra support on how to express their emotions and feelings appropriately. They respond well to structure and routine.

Selection Criteria
• The ability to provide a safe, appropriate home for four siblings
• An interest in supporting young people and their challenges
• Good communication skills as well as the ability to work well in a team
• Although not essential, people who have a background or prior experience working, caring or supporting children and youth in some capacity will be highly regarded.
• A background in health, education or community services would be advantageous but is not essential.
• Given the children’s specific needs they would be best placed in a foster family who have no children or with adolescents 16 years and older.
