About the role

Position: Occupational Therapist

Reports to: Operations Manager

Direct Reports: N/A

N/A Location: Perth

Status: Part time, 22.8 hours per week (3 days).

Parental leave coverage, ending 29 November 2018 with a possibility of extension, but with no guarantee.

Background:

NDS operates a number of Access and Inclusion services including the Australian Disability Parking Program (ACROD), Community Living and Participation, WA Companion Card program and support for the Changing Places network. The Occupational Therapist role provides clinical expertise in assessment and strategy to support the professional and quality delivery of these programs.

Position Overview:

This role operates as a sole therapist and requires a mature level of both clinical reasoning and understanding of functional capacity as applied to people with disability.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provides information and clinical assessment to applicants for Access and Inclusion services including ACROD Parking, Community Living and Participation Grants and the WA Companion Card programs and Changing Places network evaluating functional capacity against program criteria.
  • Liaises with and promotes to applicants, members of community, government and other stakeholders regarding Access and Inclusion program eligibility, best practice and relevant legislation.
  • Provides independent, specialist and clinical input into NDS program planning, development and delivery of core business.
  • Maintains currency in the fields of disability, health and aged care, and provides internal advice regarding clinical intervention, functional impact of disability and sources of supports and services.
  • Maintains accurate and professional records and manages data in accordance with NDS and professional requirements, providing data as required.
  • Maintains responsibility for professional registration and development; and currency of disability and disability/community services related knowledge.
  • Participates as a cooperative team member within NDS and supports the development of NDS programs and services.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to developing and maintaining quality assurance systems and maintaining a safe workplace.
  • Other duties as required

Key Attributes:

1. Recognized tertiary degree in Occupational Therapy and registration as an Occupational Therapist with AHPRA with a minimum of five years’ experience as an Occupational Therapist in a disability related field.

2. Knowledge of the impact of physical status and/ or disability on short term and long term functional capacity, and demonstrated mature clinical reasoning skills.

3. A contemporary understanding of issues and challenges experienced by people with a disability (including interface with health and ageing) and their families and carers, particularly in relation to functioning within the community and including the services and resources available.

4. Excellent consultation, communication and interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders to achieve results

5. Demonstrated conceptual, analytical, and report writing skills

6. Computer Literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite and demonstrated capacity to use databases.

7. Independent WA travel capability
