Wild at Heart provides opportunities for people who experience disability, mental illness or disadvantage to tell their stories and engage with the community through paid and unpaid high quality arts making in music, dance, video and performance. Wild at Heart nurtures a vibrant creative community, including the Inkrewsive hip hop crew, the Wild Divas, the Bipolar Bears rock band, songwriters, singers, film makers, dancers, event makers, production trainees, volunteers, staff and directors. Our professional artists facilitate skill development and creative arts making with participants, in music, dance, film making, event production and community engagement. We know from our own impact measurement and the extensive body of international research that community arts making has hugely positive personal, social, health, economic and cultural benefits. We work in partnership with communities, non-government organisations and all levels of government to provide high quality community arts and cultural development programs. We are governed by a Board of Directors and guided by an Advisory Group who represent the communities we work with.

About the role

Wild At Heart is seeking a highly motivated and skilled arts project manager to run our statewide songwriting and music program for people who experience mental health challenges, disability and disadvantage.

The program is a professionally run songwriting and music workshop and performance program based in metro Melbourne and two regional locations for people who experience mental illness or disability. Participants work with professional songwriting artists to learn skills in storytelling, song craft, recording and performance.

We’re not specifically seeking a songwriter or musician, but someone with an interest, skill or background in this area would add value to the role.

You will be …
– a great people person, team player and a network builder
– an excellent communicator, relating with our participants, their families and program artists, funders and other key stakeholders
– a highly skilled project manager with excellent organizational skills, a clear eye on the goal and fastidious attention to detail
– aware of the transformative power of community arts making and how to shape and support the environment in which this can happen
– highly networked within the arts and community arts scene in Melbourne

Wild At Heart is one of Australia’s leading disability arts organisations, providing opportunities for people to to tell their own stories through arts and music and gain a voice in society through their artistic work.

Employment: 2.5 days per week. Workshops are currently run weekly in Melbourne on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Regional workshops will be held on Fridays throughout the year. Office based work will be at Wild At Heart’s office in North Melbourne.

Wage: a competitive market based rate to be negotiated
