Hope Street Youth and Family Services Ltd ("Hope Street") based in the northern and western regions of Melbourne, is one of the longest established specialist youth homelessness services in Victoria.

As a leading player, with over 30 years experience in delivering responsive services to young people in local communities, Hope Street provides both strategically targeted and holistic programs for young people including young families. These programs incorporate the following:

  • Short term supported emergency accommodation
  • Outreach support for 16-25 year olds
  • Youth reconciliation involving counselling and support for young people and families
  • Advocacy, resource and referral services
  • Independent family accommodation

About the role

Hope Street are looking for a Youth Residential Services Team Leader to assist with the establishment of the Hope Street First Response Youth Service in Melton. As a leader you will provide direction to the supported crisis accommodation team including the Residential Support Workers, Case Managers and visiting team members. You will ensure a best practice culture and commitment to the highest possible quality of service as we embark on this exciting new project supporting the north west region.

You will be required to manage the day to day operational resources, with the support and oversight of the Program Manager, to deliver optimum service delivery, ensure high quality client outcomes and program implementation meets expectations. Compliance in all operational areas including human resource management, service delivery, continual quality improvement and risk management will also be achieved.

You will display your strong leadership skills by working closely with team members providing individual performance management as well as the delivery of the program models and strategic plan via annual individual work plans, supervision and effective communication mechanisms.

Be part of an exciting new innovative program that responds to youth homelessness in the growth corridor of the City of Melton. Recently funded by the State Government, construction will commence early in 2018 on our new purpose built centre comprising an eight bed communal living building; two bedroom unit for young people and their children/families; and an administration building. Your supervision skills and professional standards will help us secure the right team to deliver this service in line with the high standards we expect at Hope Street.

Applicants must address the Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to lead, supervise and motivate staff teams
  2. Demonstrated understanding of delivering services to young people in crisis within a case management framework and in a supported crisis accommodation setting responsive to their needs
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of client centred, therapeutic approaches within a multidisciplinary team
  4. Ability to develop, implement and monitor youth centred programs and capacity building initiatives
  5. Demonstrated understanding of the youth homelessness service system and allied services best placed to support and divert young people from homelessness
  6. Experience working with partners in provision of integrated, coordinated and seamless responses to achieve referral pathways and service outcomes.
  7. Demonstrated highly developed communication skills including active listening, negotiation, problem solving, decision making, advocacy and written
  8. Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, monitor and review all aspects of service programs
  9. Demonstrated ability to contribute constructively as a leader and team member for the benefit of the whole organisation.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  1. Tertiary qualification in Social Sciences (e.g. BA or Masters in Social Work or Youth Affairs) or equivalent. 
  2. Competency in using Windows software and Excel applications and capacity to maintain appropriate records and files.

The appointment is subject to a satisfactory Police Record Check and Employee Working with Children Check.
