Legal Advisor

Part-time (3.5 – 4 days per week)

Melbourne preferred but Sydney possible for the right candidate

Level 5, $74,025-77,430 per annum (pro-rata) + superannuation + practicing certificate fees

We’re looking for an experienced Legal Advisor to:

• Work with the Legal Director to advise GetUp’s campaigners, executive team and board on legal considerations and risks related to proposed campaign and corporate activities, with an eye to impact.

• Remain across GetUp’s campaign activities and ensure they are conducted in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including defamation, copyright, fundraising, consumer, energy, data, privacy, electoral and corporate laws and regulations.

• Research potential landmark cases relevant to our campaign areas.

• Draft, review, advise on and assist in the negotiation of commercial contracts, partnership agreements and other contractual arrangements between GetUp and third parties;

• Keep abreast of GetUp’s corporate activities and ensure they are conducted in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including corporate, consumer, tax and employment laws and regulations.

• Engage and apply specialist legal advice from external firms where necessary.

What you need:

• At least 2 years’ experience in a mid-large firm or equivalent, and hold an unrestricted practicing certificate.

• Excellent business judgment, communication and interpersonal skills, and a crisp writing style.

• Great initiative and flexibility in a high risk, fast moving, dynamic and demanding workplace.

• Entrepreneurial spirit.

• Passion for creating progressive change in Australia!

Bonus if you have:

• Experience working in the not-for-profit space and/or for government;

• Experience in any of administrative law, litigation or commercial contract drafting.
