About the role
Key aspects of this role include:
• To facilitate short term, long term, emergency and respite care for children and young people aged 0-18 who are referred through the Department of Health and Human Services
• To participate in all caregiver recruitment and retention activities including the provision of regular advocacy, support and supervision to all accredited foster carers
• To ensure all case work activities are clearly responsive to the client; their families and carer, whilst being trauma informed and in accordance with Best Interests Assessment and key legislative requirements.
To be considered for this role you will have:
• Relevant Tertiary qualification in the social work, social welfare or related field;
• Demonstrated working knowledge of the principles and theory of child protection and factors that lead to children being placed in out of home care;
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the roles and contributions of volunteer caregivers
• Demonstrated understanding of therapeutic approaches to working with children who have a range of issues associated with trauma, abuse, abandonment and neglect.
• An understanding of child development and factors that can impede a child’s development, including early indicators and patterns of behaviour leading to cumulative harm and an understanding and ability to work with children, young people and families through an attachment and trauma based lens.
• High level communication skills that include the ability to constructively provide open and honest feedback to carers to ensure the best interests of children are met.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working arrangements with Child Protection, Service Providers and all key stakeholders.
• Ability to make timely sound decisions about interventions required, and consult for the purposes of assessment and decision making in the best interests of the child.
• Ability to maintain records compliant with legislation, standards and data systems to assist with required reporting and to assist with relevant planning.
• Demonstrated ability to work flexibly, independently and co-operatively in a dynamic team and workplace environment.
• Computer literacy; preferable CRIS/CRISSP experience
