ACT Together represents a consortium between Barnardos Australia (Barnardos) as the lead agency, and sub-contracting arrangements to be enacted with Children Australia Inc (OzChild), Premier Youthworks, the Australian Childhood Foundation and Relationships Australia Canberra & Region.

ACT Together consortium will bring a trauma informed, integrated and coherent service response to improve outcomes for children in the Out of Home Care System and ensures that children in care, or at risk of being placed in care:

• are Safe;
• have the most stable home environment possible;
• have their best interests and specific needs at the centre of any decision-making about their care arrangements;
• have access to culturally safe services;
• have a voice in their care arrangements; and
• have their families and carers supported.

About the role

Therapeutic Counsellor within the ACT Together service is a part time (2.5 days per week), ongoing position based in Bruce, ACT.

Reporting to the Program Managers (Early Intervention Services at RACR and Therapeutic Services at ACT Together Program), the Therapeutic Counsellor is to provide therapeutic counselling services to families, carers, kin carers, extended family members, children and young people, who are seeking improved family relationships, or resolution of family relationship difficulties.

To be successful in this role, you are required to possess:
– An appropriate tertiary qualification (in social work, psychology, or other relevant qualification)
– A minimum 4 years’ experience working directly with families and/or clients with a history of trauma.
– Demonstrated understanding of the complexities of trauma and grief and loss that impacts the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and an ability to demonstrate, or willingness to learn, a broad theoretical approach to relationship counselling.

Salary & Benefits

The salary on offer is in the range of $74,933.07 to $79,841.62 per annum plus superannuation for full time. As a Public Benevolent Institution (PBI), RACR employees also receive tax-effective salary packaging opportunities, thus significantly increasing the value of your take-home pay.

According to the RACR Enterprise Agreement, the successful candidate will have access to generous leave provisions, annual leave loading, special paid leave during annual holiday shutdown period and flexible working arrangements.
