About the organisation
Giant Steps Sydney was founded in 1995 to help educate children and families experiencing autism. Giant Steps Sydney has operated successfully as a school for students with autism in Sydney for over 20 years. The school has a record of growth, expansion, innovation and strong financial management.
Giant Steps Melbourne was registered as a school in Victoria in January 2016 and inducted the first group of students in February 2016.
Giant Steps caters for students from all socio-economic backgrounds and does not charge fees. Parents fundraise and/or donate to the school to meet the additional funds required each year to meet the operating budget. The cost per student at Giant Steps is approximately $90,000 per annum but government funding covers only 45% of the costs. The remainder is raised through donations and fundraising events.
Donations and fundraising activities are supported through a wide network of families, corporates and the local community.
About the role
Job Purpose and Reporting Structure
The position sits within the Administration Team and reports to the National Funding Co-ordinator who is based in Sydney.
This position will assist in supporting the parent body to deliver their annual fundraising targets.
This position will coordinate and support donor relationships, strategic fundraising events and other fundraising programs, including, but not limited to:
- Proactively identify and build relationships with trusts, foundations, major donors and other sponsors
- Identify funding opportunities
- Co-ordinate the application of grants and any acquittal processes
- Support the planning and management of special events that are co-ordinated by the parent body
- Investigate opportunities, coordinate the timetabling and prepare submissions for grants and other fundraising opportunities
- Develop innovative alternative funding approaches
- Assist with the development of and adherence to fundraising policies and processes
- Undertake other tasks as required by the National Funding Co-ordinator including administrative support
- Respond to donor enquiries and nurture donor relationships
- Assist with updating the donor database
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Knowledge and experience in fundraising across all or most of the following: corporate, trusts, foundations and government
- Outstanding written and verbal communication
- Experience in co-ordinating and drafting proposals and funding submissions
- Proficiency in MS Office, in particular Word and Excel
- Energy, enthusiasm and empathy
- Ability to plan and prioritise workload
Desirable
- Understanding of the disability sector and fundraising issues
- Experience with online and multimedia approaches to fundraising
- Knowledge of Raisers Edge
- Experience in supporting fundraising events management
