About the role

The School Services Senior Clinician position is a new and exciting role within the headspace Dandenong and Narre Warren service and will be required to undertake a number of activities including, but not limited to providing clinician advice and support to a team of headspace mental health clinicians working across a number of schools

About the Role:
Outward-facing responsibilities:

  • Support or set up school clinical networks;
  • Clinically supervise school services clinicians as appropriate;
  • Provide debriefs and secondary consultations to all headspace school clinicians;
  • Provide brief family work with Clinical Lead at headspace centres and in schools;
  • Provide advice to schools with headspace clinicians;
  • Establish clinical supervision model for schools;
  • Delivery of community engagement presentations within schools with Community Engagement team.

 

Inward-facing responsibilities:

  • Clinically support peer workers and the Community
  • Engagement team as required;
  • Provide clinical advice to headspace staff as appropriate;
  • Establish and coordinate headspace School Services clinical review meetings;
  • Attend weekly headspace clinical review meetings;
  • Work collaboratively with other programs within headspace and EACH (where relevant).

About You:

  • Highly developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, problem solving and negotiation skills especially with young people in the early stages of help seeking;
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work autonomously and also part of a team;
  • High level of computer literacy utilising MS Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook) and the ability to work from electronic medical records and the headspace Minimum Data Set;
  • Ability to maintain positive stakeholder relationships and work collaboratively with all stakeholders’ i.e. young people, local community, government agencies, private practitioners etc;
  • Desire and capability to support leading a diverse School Services team.

Demonstrated experience in intake and risk assessments with young people. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of brief intervention and single session therapy. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of family therapy. Demonstrated clinical skills in working with young people and their families/carers with mental health issues in an early intervention framework. Experienced in providing mental health assessments, psycho-education and short term interventions to young people experiencing mental health difficulties. Thorough understanding of the mental health and broader service system. Demonstrated ability to deliver information sessions. Demonstrated experience in supporting other clinicians in professional development. Experience in working with educational services.
