About the organisation
The Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) was formed in 1981 and is the leading Australian organisation for health care professionals providing diabetes education and care. ADEA introduced the certification trademark of the Credentialled Diabetes Educator® (CDE) in 1986. At this time, it also implemented a professional recognition and development program to support diabetes educators working towards achieving and maintaining status as a CDE.
ADEA actively promotes evidenced-based best practice diabetes education to ensure optimal health and wellbeing for all people affected by, and at risk of, diabetes. ADEA considers diabetes education a specialty field of health care practice.

About the role
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Corporate Affairs Manager is responsible for creating and implementing the annual corporate affairs strategy of the organisation, which comprises elements of marketing, promotion, brand management, event management, management of ADEA’s communications to consumers and key stakeholders, media management and profiling and supporting the CEO in developing government relations. The Corporate Affairs Manager is also responsible for three direct reports the Communications Officer, Events Officer and Graphic Designer, their associate work and professional development plans.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of the already approved 2019 ADEA corporate affairs strategy
- Develop with the corporate affairs team, the annual corporate affairs strategy from 2020 onwards
- Ensure that ADEA’s marketing and promotional materials are fit for purpose resourced correctly
- Staff management on day-to-day matters and creation of team work plan
- Build a solid media network across health and mainstream media outlets
- Ensure ADEA is represented and reported on in the media
- Ensure the ADEA digital presence is maintained and maximised through its various online platforms including website and social media
- Working with the Events Officer, ensure that ADEA member conferences and other events are delivered on-time and in-full
- Serve on the Australian Diabetes Congress (flagship annual conference) organising committee
- Develop media and marketing plan for Australian Diabetes Congress
- Work with the CEO to develop ADEA’s government relations
