About the role

Summary of program and its objectives:  

The Work, Economic Security and Social Inclusion (WESSI) division comprises of 5 programs: Work and Learning, Given the Chance, Training Services, Refugees Immigration and Multiculturalism and Financial Inclusion.

Training, work experience, community networks and links to employers can make a difference for people who struggle to find work.

Given the Chance, (GTC) – delivers a range of demand-led employment programs that work closely with both employers and disadvantaged jobseekers across Melbourne (Fitzroy, Dandenong, Flemington and Epping). Given the Chance operates two main projects as follows:

  • Given the Chance Group Training Organisation (GTO) brokers and provides traineeships, labour hire and work placement opportunities for jobseekers with a range of host employers across Melbourne.
  • Jobs Victoria Employment Network (JVEN) supports disadvantaged jobseekers into employment in partnership with local providers and employers at sites in Dandenong, Flemington and Epping. This project is funded by the Victorian Government.

 Main responsibilities of the role:

The Operations Manager will be responsible for the operational management of the Given the Chance program. The role will lead the team in the provision of high quality and consistent approach in service delivery. This role ensures business growth through sound financial and KPI management; and provision of professional services to employers. The role also ensures that risk is managed and the service is compliant, providing expert guidance, support and solutions operating within legislation, policies and procedures. 

To meet the selection criteria, candidates will require:

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in managing and developing a business or social enterprise, including risk mitigation and compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience in implementing and managing employment pathway models that effectively support disadvantaged jobseekers into sustainable employment.
  • Experience in leading and managing a small team to deliver action plans and shared objectives
  • Demonstrated experience of working in collaboration with employers and with stakeholders in employment, training or social services sector.
  • Strong understanding of legal requirements and standards regarding Australian employment relations/Human Resources Management including Fair Work Australia and other relevant industry bodies
  • Strong knowledge of Group Training, Registered Training and the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build professionally supportive relationships with a broad range of jobseekers with diverse or complex backgrounds
  • Understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood.
  • Current valid Victorian Driver’s license

This is a full time position working 38 hours per week in their new office: Given the Chance – 1/219 Johnston Street, Fitzroy. The role comes with a car or a car allowance.

Salary will be in the range of $82,000 to $87,000 per annum, based on skills and experience plus superannuation. Attractive salary packaging provisions are available to increase take home pay.
