About the role
City Mission is seeking a qualified and experienced support worker to join the staff at Orana. Orana provides crisis and medium to long term accommodation options to men over the age of 21. The staff provide a supportive environment for those men, who for many reasons, are unable to find long term, safe accommodation elsewhere. Orana also provides monitoring, support and referral for people who are intoxicated. A crisis accommodation service for fathers with children or couples with children is also attached to the property and staff are responsible for the care and support of this client group as a part of the role.
Please Note: this is and Alcohol and Other Drug Support role, not a Disability Support role.
Essential Selection Criteria:
- Minimum of Cert IV in Community Services or Cert IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs, or an associated qualification or willing to undertake training towards this.
- Workplace level 2 First Aid certificate or willing to undertake.
- Current drivers licence.
- National Police check is required for all roles with Launceston City Mission
- Working with Vulnerable People Card or willing to obtain.
- Assist with Medication attainment or willing to undertake.
Desirable Selection Criteria:
- Experience or demonstrated capacity to work in an organisation adopting a Christian ethos.
- A good understanding of the causes of homelessness and addiction related issues:
- Knowledge and experience of the public housing and social housing framework
- Knowledge and experience of services that support homeless or socially isolated people
- Knowledge of the impact of trauma in individuals and families.
- Knowledge of drugs and their effects including symptoms of intoxication and withdrawal;
- Knowledge and experience in conducting alcohol and other drug assessments, brief interventions and relapse prevention
- Highly developed communication skills.
- Ability to maintain positive professional relationships with clients and staff.
- Success in delivering support to clients with complex needs.
- Success in maintaining positive key stakeholder relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised.
- Positive history of following organisational Policy & Procedures.
The position requires the employee to develop working relationships with management, peers and other functional areas within the organisation as well as external stakeholders.
The Support Worker will be responsible for facilitating positive interactions between clients within the service. They will ensure clients receive appropriate and adequate levels of support while keeping centre records up to date and accurate. They will support the Centre Supervisor to ensure that the property is well maintained and kept in good working order. They are also expected to participate in ongoing personal and professional development.
This is a Casual position and salary will be based on the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010. As a Public Benevolent Institution, LCM employees are eligible to Salary Package through our approved provider.
