  • first aid and mental health training;
  • first aid supplies and equipment, including defibrillators;
  • personalised on-site first aid restocking and WHS advice services; and
  • event health services ranging from high level medical services at music festivals to public event health safety services at major and community sporting and social events.

Every dollar of profit that St John Ambulance makes from its commercial activities is used to fund free first aid training and support volunteering activities which builds community resilience and empower people to save lives.

About the role

About the Role

St John Ambulance Australia (NSW) is seeking two Directors with strategic healthcare, emergency services, commercial or fundraising/sponsorships experience for appointment to its Board. The position of Director requires attendance at least 6 Board meetings and 2 Strategy Sessions per year. Most Directors are also part of a subcommittee with 4 meetings per year. Overall the expected time commitment is approximately 100 – 150 hours per annum.

The term of appointment is for a three-year period the opportunity for future terms of reappointment. The role is voluntary with all expenses reimbursed.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Degree qualified in a healthcare, marketing or business related field;
  • Industry connected and personally sought after due to your commercial expertise, as an educator / speaker or thought leader;
  • Previous Board or executive management experience in an organisation of the same or larger size
  • Participation in AICD director / governance courses (or similar);
  • Ability to quickly achieve a clear understanding of the business dynamics of this complex organisation, including its value to the community;
  • Exposure to sales and business expansion / improvement;
  • Willingness and ability to be involved in volunteer activities and representing the board at appropriate functions and meetings with key stakeholders;
  • A clear grasp of strategic thinking including successful strategy formulation and implementation;
  • Exceptional communication skills with evidence of an ability to listen, question and challenge in a constructive manner;
  • Monitoring skills as evidenced by the ability to probe the adequacies of finance and risk controls;
  • Ability to provide an objective and independent point of view, sound judgment and a broad perspective;
  • Well respected in the community and your industry with a willingness to assist with appropriate introductions to further the objectives of the organisation;
  • Ability to balance our voluntary and/or not for profit sector objectives with the need to be commercially sustainable in an ever changing and competitive environment;
