SisterWorks is a not-for-profit social enterprise, with its head office based in Richmond, Melbourne. SisterWorks’ mission is to support women who are refugees, asylum seekers or migrants to improve their confidence, mental wellbeing, sense of belonging and economic outlook. SisterWorks does this through providing learning opportunities, workplaces and meeting places via the SisterWorks Empowerment Hubs. Our vision is an Australia where all migrant women are given the opportunities to become economically empowered.
The SisterWorks model, 'Work Empowers Women', is centred around empowerment, fostering a sense of independence and providing opportunities. SisterWorks brings together three key elements: Learning by Doing, Community and Financial Incentives.
SisterWorks is expanding the reach of its model via an exciting partnership with UN Women providing a platform for growth, transformation and enhanced external advocacy opportunities and influence. About the role
SisterWorks is seeking a mission driven and experienced CEO to lead SisterWorks during an exciting period of growth and beyond. The successful candidate will report to the Board of Directors and will be accountable for the effective and efficient functioning of SisterWorks, leadership both internally and externally, fundraising and advocacy.
Leadership and management:
• Management oversight and responsibility across all operational aspects at Sisterworks
• Successful delivery of key projects and effective execution of business strategies
• Lead, coach and develop SisterWorks senior management team.
• Actively engage, energise and collaborate with SisterWorks’ entrepreneurs, volunteers, partnering organisations and funders.
• Sit on the Board as the executive officer
Fundraising and communications:
• Maintain and grow SisterWorks’ financial grants from key philanthropic organisations and governments.
• Maintain and grow fundraising contributions from external stakeholders and the broader community.
• Promote SisterWorks’ brand and its range of social enterprise products and services.
• Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
• Undertake advocacy for migrant and refugee women in the policy space.
• Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities and build alliances with other organisations.
KEY CAPABILITIES
• Demonstrated organisational management experience in the not-for-profit, community or social enterprise sectors.
• Ability to coach staff, manage and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives and manage a budget.
• Strong marketing, public relations, advocacy experience with a track record of engaging a wide range of stakeholders, including government and philanthropic organisations.
• Demonstrated fundraising and grant raising capability and strong networks in the philanthropic sector.
• A deep understanding of and empathy with SisterWorks’ vision and values, with a demonstrated appreciation of the opportunities and threats facing refugee and migrant women.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
• Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable and consultative approach to running an organisation.
• Ability to work under pressure in collaboration with diverse groups of people, plan personal workload effectively and delegate.
• Ability to ensure compliance with the range of statutory and contractual obligations.
We will discuss the optimum way of structuring the work with the successful candidate. We anticipate the role will involve working full time.
A remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on experience and qualifications which will include motor vehicle and mobile telephone allowance.
