Women’s Health In the North (WHIN) is a dynamic regional service operating across Melbourne’s northern suburbs. WHIN is a regional women’s health service. WHIN has a focus on addressing issues that impact on women’s health safety and wellbeing including violence against women, gender equity, sexual and reproductive health, economic equality and environmental justice.
About the role
WHIN is seeking to appoint a 0.6 EFT Women’s Health Promotion Officer. The Project Officer will be a member of the Health Promotion Team. The position is responsible for the development and implementation range of initiatives and strategies to support workforce development in the areas of gender equity, prevention of violence against women and intersectionality, including training, communities of practice and forums. This is parental leave role, fixed term until 26th March 2021.
Key Responsibilities
This position is responsible for contributing to improved health, safety and wellbeing outcomes for women in the northern metropolitan region of Melbourne.
The role will support the implementation of the regional prevention of violence against women strategy, Building a Respectful Community 2017-2021and implementing WHIN’s Free From Violence Workforce Capacity Building Project funded by the Victorian State Government.
The role involves the development, delivery and evaluation a range of initiatives to support workforce development in the area of gender equity, prevention of violence against women, and intersectionality. This will involve recruiting and training community advocates, holding a practice forum and convening a community of practice.
To succeed in this role you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications and experience in health promotion, gender studies, community development and/or a social policy discipline.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in prevention of violence against women, including current policies and frameworks.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in gender equity, including current policies and frameworks.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to intersectional feminism and addressing gender inequities in relation to women’s health, safety and wellbeing.
- Demonstrated experience in the delivery of training and group facilitation.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering community-based projects and/or working with community advocates.
- Excellent and demonstrated written communications skills, including report writing and resource development.
- Strong project planning, time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and respond flexibly to team demands and priorities.
