About the organisation
Gymnastics Queensland (GQ) is the peak body for Gymnastics in Queensland and is affiliated with Gymnastics Australia the controlling body for the sport of Gymnastics in Australia. The Association is recognised by all Government and sporting bodies within Queensland as the governing body for Gymnastics within this State. Gymnastics Queensland’s mission to govern the sport, promote the brand, develop our people, and grow the sport, encompasses seven (7) official Gymsports:
- Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG)
- Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG)
- Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG)
- Gymnastics for All (GFA), incorporating Kindergym and Fitter for Life
- Aerobic Gymnastics (AER)
- Trampoline Sports (TRP)
- Acrobatic Gymnastics (ACR)
Gymnastics Queensland’s State Office and Elite Training Centre is based at the Sleeman Sports Complex, Chandler, and employs staff which are focused on providing a broad range of services and benefits to aid its membership, to grow and develop the sport across Queensland. With over 52,000 members, 1700 technical members (coaches and judges) and over 125 clubs across all regions of Queensland, gymnastics provides people of all ages, from KinderGym (under 5’s) through to high-performance and Seniors (over 50’s) ,the opportunity to learn how to move, and master fundamental movement skills, to benefit life.
About the role
The role of the GQ Board of Directors is to represent members, advocate for the sport of gymnastics in Queensland and set the strategic direction necessary to achieve the organisations objectives and vision. There are 5 elected and 2 appointed Directors on the Board of GQ. All Directors hold 2-year appointments. Directors will also be required to undertake some tasks outside meetings including representation on Board sub-committees.
Current Vacancy:
With GQ currently developing a new strategic plan to be implemented from 2021, applications are now sought to fill two casual vacancy Director positions on the Board with the following skills set and/or experience:
Vacancy 1
- Marketing and communications
Vacancy 2
- Government / public relations
Board Meetings:
The board meets at least 6 times per year, with additional meetings as required for any sub-committee members. Board meetings are held via zoom on a weekday evening.
